My Life with Psoriasis

Hello friends,

Not sure if I’ve mention it in my blog before but I suffer from scalp psoriasis. This has been an issue for a bit more than half my life.

To be honest I’ve never been diagnosed except for that one dermatologist that said I had minor seborrheic dermatitis/ psoriasis (LADY! When your scalp is bleeding from the amount of plaque being scratched out, AND you have scabs IT IS NOT MINOR).

Why is it when you want to show a medical professional how bad your symptoms really are they decided to not be as bad?

Anyway, because of this buying hair products has always been a challenge. Well since I was 12 really, that’s when this whole thing started. I have it in my ears and scalp so I have always needed to be careful in what I use so that I don’t irritate my scalp. I suppose it could be worse.

For a while I relied on using Head and Shoulders – Eucalyptus and that worked until well it just didn’t (they changed the formula, maybe?)

Anyway, now I use MG217 Psoriasis Medicated Conditioning 3% Coal Tar Formula Shampoo which I buy off amazon. This has helped my scalp a ton! Granted the smell is awful but you get used to it and after your hair is dry it doesn’t linger like other shampoos out there. That’s not to say I don’t have the occasional flare up. Psoriasis cannot be cured just controlled and it can be triggered by almost anything . I’m still learning to work on living with this condition, you really never get used to it, never.

I hope this helps some of you suffering from this awful condition. This brand has other product for different areas of your body, I have also tried the salicylic acid shampoo but it wasn’t as effective.

If you have any questions feel free to leave them! It took so long for me to discover what works (still figuring it out) and mostly what didn’t. HEY maybe I had crappy dermatologists but I’ve been able to make it this far without shaving my head from this.
